Chain of Responsibility

CoR legislation extends the legal liability for breaches of transport law to all parties throughout the transport chain.

This means anyone who has control in the transport chain can be held legally accountable if, by their actions, inactions or demands, they cause or contribute to road safety breaches. This includes ACH, ACH’s Client, ACH’s supplier, ACH’s subcontractor’s and drivers

Chain of Responsibility Principles

  • In WA CoR laws only extend to vehicle mass, dimension & load restraint
  • The actions of every party in the chain contribute to on-road safety
  • Road safety is a shared responsibility
  • Every party in the chain is responsible for ensuring the safety of their transport activities
  • Parties in the chain can be held responsible for non-compliance by others in the chain

Main roads WA have issued several fines where a party in the road transport supply chain has been convicted of an offence, see link for further information
